I am currently trying to build a 1/32 Hurricane MK IIC and after several (who am I kidding, several severals [:I] )years away from the hobby it is becoming painfully obvious that I have lost that gental touch. Heres my dillema; While attempting to mask the canopy to prep for spraying, I somehow snapped it in half lengthways. Is there any way to repair this or do the cards see a dio of a wounded bird that has come home with shot-up landing gear and skidded and flipped over at the edge of the runway? Eyes straight forward, hair straight back, front towards the enemy. |

No way to repair it without the repair being painfully obvious. You might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer or see if a vac form is available from an aftermarket source.
Regards, Rick
ouch! that ain’t good if it wasn’t clear you could of fixed it but as Rick said it would be painfuly obvious you’d have to get a new one .
sory I couldn’t help,David
I’d be surprised if Squadron don’t have a clear canopy for it (provided it’s a popularish kit). Given the grief encountered when trying to mask it… have a look out for the pre-cut masks which seem like a good investment.
Failing that… know some people have made their own canopies (oh joy) from molds made from the original.
I am not sure who is the manufacturer but I’d ask them for a new one. I have asked for parts at Revell and Airfix and they always gave the part, no problems.
bad influence ! i’ve done it myself masking the canopy of my starfighter [:(!]
Sorry to here about the demise of your canopy. I found a helpfull tip in this forum when trying to mask canopys. I wish I remembered who it was so I could give that person proper credit. Go to the toy store and purchase some silly putty. Fill up the inside of the canopy while you are working on it and it will give it the support it needs and also keep it from sliding around on the work table. It leaves no residue at all on clear parts or painted parts. It also can be used to mask areas that are a pain in the rear because of complex shapes. It is one of the best tips i have ever found on this forum. Good luck finding a replacement. Soulcrusher
Ooooops!!!..sorry about this mishap old chap…But, is the Front part OK?..if so you could
use the front and have it in the “open” position. The back can easily be done with sheet plastic. If not!!!..big Problema!!! But, you could carve a wood cockpit and use the “Candle and clear plastic” tecnique to make a new one…Problem solved. [:)]…Good luck.
hmmmmmmmmm… great idea but it hasn’t really broken it is actually shattered and it has lot’s of cracks all over so you can’t see though the shattered plastic
thanks for the advise, david
