D.A.P. Mk XXI Beaufighter

G’day Folk’s,

The 48 scale Tamiya Mk VI kit was the base kit for this subject, with a lot of Resin modification’s and the rocket rails have been taken from the Hasegawa Typhoon Ib kit, this model was built for the RAAF Officer Training School, it is painted in the Foliage Green Extra Colour paint, with a tinge of insignia blue added, I tried to replicate a faded shade of ‘Black Green’, which is what this aircraft’s true colour was].
The paintwork is not an optical illusion, it is actually weathered with dried green paint {almost a powder} and smeared across the model surfaces.

The rudder, tailplane control surfaces and wing flaps are resin and when the hydrolic pressure droped both the wing flaps and tailplanes controls and trims also droped. The rudder is turned slightly to match the tail wheel, also the hedgehog exhausts are resin, the collector ring is finished in the burnt iron as the so called heat resistant white paint applied to these aircraft whent back to burnt bronze in colour.

The decals of the tiger nose and 31 Sqn Codes are from an old Tasman sheet, the rest are faded and semi faded decals from the spare’s sheets, this is the second Mk XXI that I have built, the other being a 93 Sqn ‘Green Ghosts’ aircraft.
