Cyberhobby Gruppe Fehrmann Hybrid Tiger 1 release

Correct me if I’m wrong, but couldn’t you just build the same vehicle for less by kitbashing two other decent Tiger kits? I would think that would be a worthy and fun-as-hell project! Of course, you wouldn’t have the PE and other “goodies” necessarily, but in the future rather than paying an astronomical price, it’s perfectly conceivable that you could get the same vehicle with a little ingenuity?

Sure, but how many of those kitbashes have you seen on the boards? Sacrificing two Tiger kits doesn’t seem to be a popular option. It’s interesting how Cyber Hobby feeds two seperate genre here, the collector/horder/speculator and the German Armor modeller. At the release price, I doubt you could do it as cheap Doog, unless you found some deals.

Otherwise, just another nice Tiger to build. One version, I might add, that no other manufacturer is marketing by the way. I am very thankful that Dragon and David Byrden are working to give us these great kits and the opportunity to collect and build them.

regards,

Steve

Looks like my stash of CH Tigers will have to grow.

Just re-read the history of Kompanie Fehrmann in Tigers in Combat 2. Captivating stuff. 30km behind enemy lines…The vehicle F02 is pretty neat subject - hit in the mantlet it returned for repairs recieving a spare zimm covered manlet (no doubt in different camo - etc.) and then came back to fight on and be destroyed by a Comet.

What about the Zimmed Offering Tiger I, seen one picture but nothing else, I thought it would be out by now.

Sure to go for big bucks on ebay. Haven’t heard much myself as I check Greatmodels almost every day. Expect prices to be in line with their other zimmed offerings.

Hi guys. My couple cents.

From GF, i’m fairly sure F13, F01 and F02 can be modeled with this hybrid kit, but all three of them had UGLY PAINT JOBs! There’s a 411 from 506? 510? A weird one that probably required some modifications, but by far the prettiest hybrid I’ve known (with colored drawings that is). I’ve never seen pictures of the other 3 GF tigers you guys mentioned, anyone cared for some enlightment?

I persume one could build an early tiger from the kit with some aftermarket wheels, or use a tamiya or acedemy kit as donor, which in the end would still be cheaper than the wittmann kit, but not by much. I’m continuing my stockup on the wittmann kit, since that’s as close to a standard early as dragon had produced.

The kurzmaul tank is a hybrid also. I just built that (and I thought the thing was late at first), it had alot of mid/early features. The base for head lamps on sides of the hull for example, and the loader’s hatch… The kit didn’t include the late turret top with added armor either (nor the cupla with water channels), and there’s cover plates/stripes for the return wheel axle (crew could open that to adjust the angle / track tension) which I’ve not seen on any late hull either.

Anyone know where I can find pictures of that kurzmaul tank?

All dragon had to do was to sell a X in 1 early/mid box. Even a short production run like 6253 would of made me very happy. They know we wanted that, and they’re not giving it to us on purpose. This really sucks.

Rios:

The Kurzmaul tank was a transitional rather than a hybrid… it was used exactly as built.

The track-tensioning ports are on the hull rear, and they’re the same on all Tigers… I don’t know what you were looking at.

With the Fehrmann kit, I suggested making F01 an option, but it was too late, the decals were already printed. However I did get Dragon to include the parts for F01… a shorter support for the commander’s hatch, and cut-down supports for the smoke launchers.

To make an Early out of the Fehrmann, you need the older tracks and wheels. That gives you a June '43 tank without S-mines and Feifels.

David

I just broke my moratorium on buying kits until after the taxes are done to order this kit. The allure of the profit this kit could fetch me was too strong to resist.

I wonder if I should pre-order another to build. [:-^]

byrden:

I never noticed that axle cover on the other tiger kits from dml.
in fact, I just checked the instructions of 6253 and wittmann (don’t have a 6250 right now) and didn’t notice such step to install that cover on either.

MB made an early wheel set. Below is a link to info on those GF tanks. http://www.track-link.net/forum/research_ww2/2545

"To make an Early out of the Fehrmann, you need the older tracks and wheels. That gives you a June '43 tank without S-mines and Feifels. "

S-mine were installed throughout 43, and during this period only. Vehicles produced before july 43 had the old turret, but most of them obviously also had S-mine. The problem is, the loader’s vision port was only installed between march and june 43 on the old turret, so only the turrets produced during that period, but were not completed till early 44 had both features! Which, obviously, aren’t many.

Some tigers also had exterior main gun traveling lock installed, namely all vehicles between nov.43 and feb.44. This apparently wasn’t included in the F02 kit, and our choices might be further limited.

On top of those, some turrets produced between march and june 43 also had the porsche mantlet!

Air purifier is included in the kurzmaul kit.

Rios:

These are the covers that you open up to adjust the track tension:http://tiger1.info/pictures/44___.jpg

They are Present on every DML Tiger; they are never separate parts.

When I said you can make “a June '43 tank without S-mines and Feifels” I meat that the Feifels and S-mines would be in the removed state, e.g. for transporting the tank; the bare mounting points and supports are provided in the kit. Obviously, being a June '43 tank, it would be capable of carrying those items.

There is no question of needing an external travel lock, because the kit has the Early turret. You can backdate it to June '43, not to any of the intermediate months.

"Air purifier is included in the kurzmaul kit. "

The W sprue is not included, therefore you cannot build the full air purifier.

David

If I wanted to put fruils on one of these, which set would be appropriate? Early, middle or late?

Use the Late tracks.

David

hey bryden, you’re right, the w spur wasn’t included.
Any idea where I can find the whole air filter (including the intake piplines removed later) without using a full early tiger kit as donor? Any engine detail sets comes with those?

There are PE s-mines btw.

I can send you the full Acamedy set, the hoses are crap but anyway…

I received an email today, 21 Feb. 2008, that the Gruppe Fehrmann Tiger I’s are now shipping. So check your mail if you pre ordered you may have a tracking number

Mine is shipping too. It says it will be here on Tuesday. I can’t wait.[:D]

my entire case will get here tomorrow, then I gotta deal with wife’s fury.

Am I the only one who has a wife/girlfriend/fiance who fully supports them in the hobby??? LOL

After dropping $300 on supplies to build the Tiger I from Saving Private Ryan (for the actual owner of the vehicle), I just bought two of these…one to build, one to save.

P.s. I just started a new thread with pictures of the SPR Tiger, for those who are interested.

Irish,

You’re not alone, but I definitely think we are in the minority. [:D] My wife’s approach is a simple one…“there’s a lot worse things you could be doing with the money.” [;)]

Exactly! When we first started dating, she asked me why I spent so much money on all of my kits and supplies… My response? “Well, it makes me happy, and it is cheaper than Heroin”.

She got the point.
