Wbill and I talked about this and he appears to be correct . A newly tooled Stug III with the late saukopf mantlet. Comes with schurzen and magic tracks. I’ve been waiting for a new one, but based on recent Dragon marketing methods, it’s likely a waffle-zimmerited version will be just around the corner. It will be hard to stay patient, but I must.

Make your own waffle iron out of styrene and use wood filler for the Zimmermit. It will be more realistic than a molded on pattern. The entire hull can be done as this chips off easy for places you need to glue to the bare hull, or for zim chips & battle damage.
Kit #6879 isn’t an orange-box, it’s a white-box, which means it’s a one-run-only limited production kit. [;)]
While the name says “Mid-Late”, CH has done a very nice tight-rope walk with this one in that it doesn’t actually have any true “late” features and has things that you would see only within a very narrow timeframe of April-May '44 production. Not uncommon for CH to take this approach with a white-box release and I still hold out hope that it heralds the potential for a “true” late that has features like the remote-firing MG on the roof, revised loader’s hatches, etc…it does inch them closer to it but the only truly “new” parts that CH is throwing into this one appears to be the all-steel return rollers and the PE equipment rack on the rear deck. Everything else is already readily available from other DML released kits like the StuG IV and previous StuG III G releases. [;)]
It definitely requires zim though to be accurate…either the waffle pattern from Alkett or the “standard” raked/line pattern from MIAG. [B]
Thanks Bill. You definitely gave it a thorough look-over compared to me. I was excited that it had the schurzen which the Imperial kit #9014 did not. Yes, I will wait patiently for a “true late” version, preferably with zim.
