Any suggestions on how to best cut this stuff in the 0.093" thickness? I’ve heard that some use a saw, while others score and snap. Any suggestions for cutting? Blade type? No. teeth per inch? Cutting speed? Preventing chipping? Also suggestions for score and snap: special scoring tool required? How deep must it be scored?
To some extent, this depends on the specific acrylic. However, if scoring and snaping, make the score very deep, as acrylics generally tend to break irregularly, especially if you have a nick or irregularity in the score.
Glazing acrylics are generally harder and easier to score and snap.
The easiest method is to use a saw, fine tooth, small kerf, light pressure, low speed.
Score and snap. Use the back side of your #11 blade to do the scoring. Make you cut line measurement a hair further to allow for sanding and cleaning up of the edge.
Thanks fellas, I’m going to give both methods a try and see what results. It’s reassuring to know that there is more than one way!
Some feedback on the cutting. I took the back of a #2 X-acto and scored it all the way through using multiple passes. The result was a clean cut edge with minimal dressing up.
For styrene or acrylics up to .040 I use the #11 blade and cut & snap - From .050 up to 1/4" I break out the Olfa scriber (cutter?) and cut & snap - any thing larger than that goes to the bandsaw.
