You could use a scribing tool or an Exacto knife and take your time or you could use a very fine toothed Exacto razor saw OR you could check www.squadron.com and see if they offer the canopy in their vacuformed canopy line.
The latter is what I would opt for. If they have it, it will look more realistic when cut and glued in the open position.

Oh!!! And [#welcome] to the jungle. I think you will like it here!!!
thanks randie,
the kit is cheaper than a vacuformed canopy… it worth a try…

Anytime, MT.
Take care.
At two bucks for the usual two canopies from Squadron, I’ll take theirs, because usually a one piece canopy is pretty thick. I have this problem with the Hasegawa Hurricane I want to start, so I ordered the two-pack of Squadron canopies for the kit, and I’m sure I’ll screw one up. But with all the neat furniture and tubing in a Hurricane’s office, it’s absurd to have a thick, closed canopy over it. And there’s no excuse for that on any kit that cost at least $20, which nowadays is about the bare minimum price for any kit of minimal detail and crafting in the parts. And while we’re talking about price, what exactly did Eduard give us in return for their doubling and tripling the prices of their PE sets in less than a ten-year period? These same frets that sold for $6 seven years ago are now 14 to 20 bucks. It’s enough to make a man holler.

When I need to sepserate a canopy (molded or vac-formed) I use a number 11 blade. Just score the line very lightly a first and slowly build up the amount of pressure you put on the knife. If you push to hard at first, you risk the blade going off the line you want to cut.
Tom- It’s the same story with some accurate miniatures kits, great cockpit detail, but thick canopies that you can barely see through. And, if you think the eduard PE sets are expensive, don’t look at their colour PE line. The same fret with a little bit of colour on it is twice the price of the normal PE one.
Good Luck with the canopy…The 1/48 Tamiya Raiden is a great plane / model.
Whether you’re cutting an injection-moulded or vacuform canopy, pack it with kneaded eraser first. This soft, "squishable rubber eraser will give a ton of support to the fragile item without permanently sticking or mucking things up. You can get 'em in the art supply section of places like Michael’s.
