Over the summer I had some time, and decided that it was time for me to build my own spray booth. This was done not the least for the sake of my wife’s worrying about my health, as well as having a one year old daughter around. I simply did not want to chance having fumes in the house anymore. So, I took to building a cabinet that would be large enough to accommodate 1/48th scale bombers in the future if I was to paint them. Using a FSM article from around 2007/2008 (I can’t remember which one), I calculated what kind of fan I would need, how big it could be, etc. I made it 3 foot wide x 2 foot high x 2 foot deep. I found a great fan at Harbor Freight, which is more than powerful enough to evacuate the cubic footage of air necessary to keep the flow. I also built in some outlets, and a bright white light to paint by. I ducted the fan out to a dryer-type vent that I installed in insulation that fits in my window. It is now ~45 degrees F, and you can’t get any hint of a draft. It took all of about a week to build. Here are some pictures:
