Curtiss Mohawk and Hawk 75N quesions! :-(

Hi everyone… I need some help of the gurus of the forum. I want start to build a couple of kits I hunted since quite long time ago, the Curtiss Mohawk and the Hawk 75N both Hobbtcraft 1/48, and now I just got them it raised a couple of questions about them.

Im planing to build the Mohawk in biritsh and the Hawk 75N in Thai scheme… my question is, what were the interior colors of those aircrafts? Including the interior cockpit colors, engine cowling interior and wheel wells. Searching through the net I found very little info, I got a cople of PDF documents about P-36 they do mention about those subjets but they don’t about interiors. My guess is the mohawk had the typical british interior green and for the hawk 75 in the US interior green for the cockpits, but now Im not quite sure about that since I saw a picture in B/W of this british mohawk in what seems to be bare alum cockpit.

Any help will be appreciated!

I think you will be safer using aluminum for the export Hawk 75’s in all areas. Perhaps not the wheel wells. I would be more inclined to do them in the exterior color, or canvas in the wheel recess area as a cover was there.

I believe John is right. Pre-WWII a/c tended to have natural metal cockpits. The P-36 and P-40 both featured canvas coverings in the wheel wells (the tire part; the other part where the strut went was probably natural metal). The canvas coverings on the P-40s were often discarded for maintenance-related issues.

Thanks much John and Steven, I thought about green interiors cuz as far I know mohawks were fited with british equipment even some had british seats, so my guess was they were painted with british interior green too, about the Thai Hawks I thought about us green interior cuz I have this picture of this chinese hawk 75M similar to 75N except for the extra gun under each wing, in which seems (not sure) had the cockpit painted in some color but natural metal.

I think I’ll go with natural metal in both interior kits. Thanks again for the advise. I’ll post some pictures when’s done.

What - No progress pictures yet ?

Whip

Where you been my friend ?

Hahahaha… ouch! I felt that last whip in my back!.. :stuck_out_tongue: Sorry not advances yet, it take some time for me researching, in fact it take more time for me researching than building the model. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anywho, now I have the needed info it’s time to start, I’ll post some progress.

Check out Google’s Life magazines color photos for P-40B’s as they show some shots of the interior cockpit walls. Just type in P-40 before the term source life. Sorry that they don’t show any P-36’s or Hawks.

Thanks richs, I’ll take a look.
