Hi all it’s my first time on and wanted to say hi.

now what im looking for is info on the german cuff titles where these used in Nomandy ?
or even right up to 1945 ?

if any one out there knows where i can get the info im looking for please let me know thank you.

As far as I know, the cuffbands weren’t a standardized item for the German military. They were mainly used by special units like the divisions of the SS, the AfrikaKorps, the Luftwaffe Panzer division “Hermann Göring” and the Panzer Grenadier division Großdeutschland, for example. Other units did use them but I don’t know which ones. I would get the name/number of a specific unit and start researching it to find uniform info. The web may be a gold mine of info, and it may be a big waste of time, but that’d be my first step.

Cuffbands are more common in the SS than in the army divisions.
-Main Race and Settlement Dept. of the Reichfurung SS. Left Sleeve around 1935
-Non commissioned ranks of the SS Oberabschnitt Bohemian Mahren (Bohemia and Moravia Czechoslovakia) 1944.
-SS Oberabschmitte on staff units as well as medical from 1939

  • Officers on staff of the SS Standarten (regiments). These had the regimental numbers on them. Motorized units had an M proceeding the regimental numbers.
    -SS Allgemeine Regiments. These had colored piping on the edges denoting the different battalions.
    -SS Standarte staff.

-Other ranks regulation cuffbands
-2nd SS panzer Division “Das Reich”
-4th SS Polizei Panzer Grenadier Divizion
-Other ranks 9th Panzer
-Other ranks 16th Panzer
-Liebstandarte Adolf Hitler 1st SS Panzer
6th SS Panzer Grenadiers
3rd SS Panzer Division
3rd SS Panzer Grenadiers
17th SS Panzer Grenadiers (I think these may have been in Normandy during the invasion)
5th SS Wiking Panzer Division

I would check individual units though, because some of this was limited to officers, or sgts. and in some cases specialized ranks. Its very confusing.

Some non SS units
were Afrika Corp
War correspondents
MP’s (Feldgendarmerie) Batallions and troops
Medical units
Panzer Grenadiers

Plymonkey’s suggestion that you research a particular unit is the best advice though. THat will give you hard evidence if that particular unit used cuff titles or markings on their officers or troops.

im looking for info if the cuff titles where still in use in june 44 till the end of the war i have looked the web over and nothing maybe some one has this info in a book ?
