CSS Alabama progress

This is my first time into uploading photos here so bear with me on getting it right. Best I could do with my point and shoot film camera with only one wide lens.

The model is farther along now

Looking realy good! (would love to see some closer pix…) Like the deck detail/activity work, too

Thats looking real nice!, and that stack looks fantastic. Dumb question, but what does the outlined detail on the deck represent?..also are you planning on weathering the hull?.. keep the pics coming.

Michael.

The deck detail is actually steel bands (on the real ship) for the large canon to rotate without crushing the deck. The copper is weathered (can’t really see it here) and if the photos were better you would see that I did a black oil wash on the deck and inner walls. The stack is Tamiya German Grey then drybrushed with MM Gunship gray. I know I need a digital camera, but…Thanks

I like that deck color. Finally a deck that looks like it logically should.!![^]

Your Alabama is coming along very nicely ! Keep us informed with more photos please (I love photos of other peoples builds ).

She’s looking GOOD ! Can you get some closer pics ?

Bud

Looks great! I’d also be very interested to see some close-up pics.
What paints and methods did you use for the deck?

Unfortunaltely my camera is a 1984 nikon point and shoot and does not focus below 3 feet. Great camera a war horse however not for closeups.

The deck is MM enamel “Sand”, brush painted on and sealed with Testors flat…then washed with artist oil paint “black” thinned with mineral spirits. The canon bands were a serious PIA to paint.

The oil paint wash reduces contrast and brings it all together gives a very realistic look. The Alabama deck, a working warship must have been quite sooty from the stack coal smoke and cannons while in action .

I’ve got the masts on now.

Did you draw in the caulk lines? I’m getting ready to build this ship soon myself and I was wondering if you found any new imformation on the original CSS Alabama to add to your model.

It looks good!

Hi to everyone , For anyone thats been wondering where I have been, I have all but finished the CSS Alabama and I am quite pleased with the results. I have some touch up painting here or there and thats it. Now to NOT break anything on the ship!!!

I hope to have photos up in a couple of weeks, as I have a film camera not digital.

Looking forward to getting your opinions. I don’t think I’ll be starting the my Cutty Sark , and or QM2 until later this year. I’m going to build 2 fantastic Tamiya armour models next.

I’ll post the Alabama photos as soon as I can.

Cheers
