Hi all helpers.
I have not been in the armour scene for very long but I believe that some British Cromwell’s were painted in a white winter scheme but it wasn’t wide spread. Can anybody help? Also, did FSM do an article on this subject, if so what issue?
Lastly, but not about a Cromwell. Can anyone tell me if anybody has produced a 1/35 A11 Matilda Mk 1?
First tthing is welcome d17,hope to here more form you.As far as the Cromwell gos I could not find any pics on a winter scheme for you.Do do know that they use a white wash during the battle of the bulge.Sorry that this does not help you and taking to long to reply back to you.So welcome to the forum and stay awhile.Digger
I was not able to find anything in my book on the Bulge either. There was one picture of a British tank crew in a Sherman without winter camo. Overall, the thinking was probably that if you could find the paint, do it. Sorry I could not be more help. Anyhoo, welcome to the forums.[#welcome]
[#welcome] to the FSM forum.
Not being any kind of knowlegeable individual on British armor, I’m afraid I can’t be of much help. I don’t seem to recall any particular Cromwell features in FSM in the last year or so, but there was a whitewash article a long while back…
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, but I’m sure that others here will have a better answer.
There are a few pics of ‘white’ Cromwells in the winter of '44/45. Concord’s ‘British Tanks of WWII (2) Holland and Belgium’ has 2 photos on page 23.
I managed to locate one anyway, not a whole lot of winter camo shots of Cromwells
but definitely an intrigueing idea!
Thanks everybody for the input especially Michael and Sasd…at last some reference material and the picture was a God send. From the picture, it looks like the paint job was a thorough one.
I am a relatively new comer to building armour, I mainly build 1/48 fighters from WW2 Europe and Med theatres. I haven’t been known to go over board on lots of detail on my models but tend to build off the ‘main stream’ subjects.
