I know there is a decaling board here, but I figured I would get more feedback here. Here is a RAF roundel on a Hurrican wing. Obviously, it cracked up pretty good. 
These were older Aeromaster decals, from 1996. Did I put too much Micro-sol on? Did I wait to long to put micro-sol on? Is this just a random act of the Modeling Gods? Or is this just how the cookie (or decal) crumbles sometimes. Thanks!
Probably a combination of Sol, age, and condition conspiring against you. Wish it was fixable.
my heart is always in my mouth after the decal starts to wrinkle after microsol. sometimes it smooths itself out, sometimes it needs a little help, and sometimes its terminal.
It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the red looks off and that probably is a dead old decal.
Micro Sol is aggressive, I try not to use it unless it isn’t working with Micro Set.
Probably your best bet is to rip off as much of it as you can with tape. Lightly sand and put another one down over it. Good luck.
You didn’t put too much on . I had some old Aeromaster decals (probably from the same time frame-say 96-97 or so) . They were just crap after that long. I had to buy another set of decals.
Looks to me they’re old decals. I highly doubt Micro Set being “aggressive” when applied is the cause.
Its funny that the age can do this to a decal. Last year when I did my P-39, I used Microscale 48-09, one of their very first releases from late 70s-early 80s, and I very little problem with them.
It really depends on how they were stored. Who made them too.
You know now that you say that, these came in a ziplock quart size bag that couldn’t close all the way, instead of the normal decal sized bags you are used to seeing. That could be it.
If nothing else, you could make the aircraft look like it was sitting somewhere for a long time.
99.9% of decal problems will vanish whe you purchase after market decals .99.9% of the aircraft versions are on the after market decal world.
Even the modern kits are gearing towards after market type of decal sets.Kitty Hawk, Airfix,and Revell.
When I make a commission build , I often ask how they want and what version information for the project.I then go after market and have no problem.
I am not downing the kit decals to much.But;Times have changed in modeling.
