This is my first car model I am building, I nomally do airliners. I was looking to see if there is any companies that produce matching car paints.
I’m building Revells 1:8 1965 Corvette for my father, and would like to see if there are any paints out there, before I go mixing them. Thanks in advance guys.

As for anyone making the paints, I know at the very least Model Masters has Fathom Green in their custom Lacquer paint line. Good luck and have fun!

I was thinking along the lines of a company like Xtracolor. They produce colors like United Airlines Blue, and Northwest Grey.
I was is anyone made stuff like Sunfire Yellow for Chevy.
I know Testors makes Chevy Orange. I was just thinking more along the line of Exterior Colors.
There is a magazine out there called “Car Modeler” (I think that is the title). Anyway, there is a company that advertizes in the magazine that it produces OEM colors for models. See if you can find the magazines web site and maybe they can get you the info on the paint maker. (name and address)
As a second source try an automotive parts store that sells automotive paint. They can get OEM paints in spray cans that are more user friendly than the “REAL” automotive paints, such as lacques, acrylic enamals, and or the urithanes, which can be VERY hazadrous to your health.
A third source would be the touch up paints sold in spray cans by companies like Dupli-color and Plasti-coat (I think). Check their web sites and see if they have the paint for the year Corvette your are making. The colors usually carried in the stores like K-Mart, Wall Mart, and Auto Zone, are usually the more recent model years, say the last 5 years. However, the company may produce paints for older model years that you can order.
One last suggestion. If you are going to mix the color yourself you can stop by an automotive paint store and have them look up the color “MIX” ratios for you. I did this for the Monogram 1948 Ford woody wagon.
The guy who mixes the paint did not have the information on hand so he called DuPont and they provided the mix ratio and a color chip for the body color, and the “Corporate Blue” engine color. It pays to talk nice to folks. rangerj

No, I was not implying that YOU were not being nice. Sorry if it sounded that way. That was not my intention. It was just a general comment. Sometimes auto piant and/or parts store employee can be a little short with us (we modelers) when they find out we are looking for a small amount of paint and a little information. (my experience)
