This is my Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1 birdcage Corsair, done for the US naval aviation GB. Completed pretty much out of the box but with some eduard PE details for the cockpit and a vac-form canopy. I used Tamiya’s decals for most of it, but the insignia’s and kill markings are by aeromaster.
The aircraft is from VF-17 which was the first and only Navy squadron to take delivery of birdcage corsairs. This one operated off the USS bunker hill, but never saw active service.
I painted it using Tamiya spray cans for the white and intermediate blue. Gunze acrylics were used for the Sea-blue. It is all sealed with Gunze flat clear and some weathering done with pastels.
Thanks for having a look, and I hope you like the pics.
Whoa!!! That is one beautiful Corsair. I’m with nmayhew, how did you get the demarcation lines so cleanly with spray cans? Please share your talents oh great one!
Thx. John
