corroguard color

Can someone give a hint on what would be a close Modle master Metalizer color for the corroguard panels on most airliner thanks J

Corroguard is not metallic, as I understand it. Canadian Voodoo gray is one of the generally accepted Model Master colors for this material.

Corogard is very difficult to pin down and often it can appear different in different light. I’ve even seen photos that show different shades on different wings of the same airplane. A slight metallic shade can be appropriate (I’ve used Tamiya metallic gray) so you might try one of Metalizer’s darker shades.

Canadian Voodoo gray is a good match for Boeing gray seen on the the wings and undersides of many Boeing airliners.

Dark metallic gray? Aaron, do you think Testors MM Dark Anodonic Gray Buffing Metalizer is good match?

I’m hopeless with acrylic paint, and have to stay with the enamels.

Thanks.

Alan

There is no metallic coloring in the corroguard. Also, the color depends on whether its a Boeing or an Airbus. There is a MM Acryl called Aircraft Grey which looks really good on the Boeings. Not sure if its available in enamel or not, though.

What are you planning to build?

Corroguard certainly has no metallic coloring in it at all, its a tar used as a undercoating of truck, for example and has no place on a plane. [:D] I suppose it could be ordered with metallic flakes for a extra fee… Corogard however, does belong on a plane. Its color varies from airline to airline, from plane to plane, from time of day, to lighting, to age of aircraft, the variables go on and on. Just as regular paint will. Looking at pictures on A.net for example will show this. In fact corogard can even appear to change color on a plane passing over head as the lighting changes. Ive used decals (my favorite), Tamiya gun metal in a spray bomb (meh), and on my current build, a 772lr Im planning to mask the inspar after priming with Alclad grey primer to represent it and be done. After all on the lr/w and 300er, only the bottom has it. Dont stress over it, pick a grey darker than Voodoo grey and call it good, we wont prove you wrong. If you can get Xtracolor paints, #331 is corogard.

I am not familiar with Corroguard. Is that an aluminum conversion coating, like Alodyne or other phosphate coatings?

Thank you everyone, for your response.

I decided to stop driving myself crazy over this. On this build I used Tamiya Fine Grey Primer, sanded very smooth.

Looks good from here.

Very nice. I love the Caribbean livery. It’s been on my to-do list for a couple of years.

Cheers, Aaron

Corroguard is simply aluminum suspended in a clear binder to prevent corrosion. So, use aluminum.
