Copper Bare Metal Foil

At the moment, I’m covering the hull below the waterline of a Heller 1/100 HMS Victory with copper Bare Metal Foil.

Don’t worry, it’s nowhere near finished yet!

Anyway, I found that the copper BMF is much thicker than the normal stuff, and the adhesive on the back is less sticky than the normal foil. As a result it’s a lot more difficult to work with.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and how did you solve it? I’m coating the sticky side of the BMF with Pritt Power adhesive stick to improve adhesion, which is helping to a certain extent.

OH Yeah!, I’ve had the same issues with that brand. I think they believe that the thicker the glue the less the detail will show. Here is what I did, Wipe the remaining plain hull down with a quick swipe of acetone. this will remove ANY oil from your fingers that you’ve put there by handling. Then apply as normal. the acetone etches the plastic microscopically (sp) this allows for the parer to hold to the rougher surface beter. Try this on another piece of plastic sand see how it works.

I once did a appollo capesul with the stuff, it gave me fits.
