cool WWII Allied aircraft schemes for my what-if Corsair

I got this premonition today in the middle of bar number 139 in Jupiter from Holst’s Planets (yes it is that important that I memorized it) that since the Arii kit isnt that good anyway and I dont want to go to the hobbyshop to buy 2 bottles of paint, I was thinking maybe painting it in European theatre colors…

perhaps full OD (not sure if I have enough OD tho… grrr I have all the useless colors like bright pink and light purple and bright yellow) with invasion stripes? or maybe Spitfire scheme with US markings?

anyways, I’m staying away from NMF, although this would be a good place to try it, because… well… I don’t want to order Alclad II…

any and all scheme suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I might consider that one black and white camo on a P-51 that was posted here earlier, but that would make my hair turn gray and fall out

As a what if, you could paint the corasir in that 2 tone blue “haze” camo seen on many p-47M’s. If it had entered combat in the ETO late it’s possible the corsair would have worn camo like the thunderbolt. The corsair was a powerful fighter and unlike the mustang could afford the added weight and silght drag of paint.

what if I did a mock Stuka scheme?

like the F-18 USAF has with a mock Mig-23 scheme (dunno the specifics, I just saw it)

I don’t know how far you want to take this or what version corsair you are building but the british did operate both the corsair and the hellcat. There were skirmishes between them and the luftwaffe where I know a hellcat claimed a fw190A kill and I think a corsair did as well. you could paint the corsair like a RAF operated corsair instead of the navy marking. If you rearmed it with 4 20mm cannons this would turn it into a tank buster/ V-1 killer. Painting it like a stuka would work if you wanted it to look like a captured aircraft now operating in luftwaffe hands. They flew almost every allied aircraft anyway as did the allies. Some ideas the throw around.

my thought is that it would be like a U.S. marked plane with a paint scheme that looks like a Stuka, so that any german stukas would mistake it as its friendly from far away

ok so I just spent 3 hours making this.

waddaya think? the fuse is supposed to have the splinter scheme as well, but it looks curvy cos i tried to simulate the curved fuse.

I’m actually mighty proud of this one [:D]

see up there, I made a mock-up of the lines of Stuka’s wing on the Corsair wing, and with the empty spaces, I filled in with dark green. same goes for the tail surfaces.

i think by the end of this week, I’ll have the bottom and side views done.

…and possibly make some progs on the actual model

A few years back I did an F4U-1/2 in OD over neutral grey. I gave it a red cowl ring, cut off the tailhook and slapped some old 4th FG markings on it. It looked pretty good, until I knocked it off my book case and busted off one of the prop blades, both main gear and the canopy popped off. Can’t remember now if I tossed it or stuck it in a box somewhere.
