It’s definitely a real photo, taken by USAF photographer SSgt Bennie J. Davis III. A larger version can be found HERE.
Fade to Black…
Thinks for the link BlackWolf.
Hey, no prob… providing images is one of the few things that I do well and I’m happy to do it.
I think I have some other images of this incident. If I can find 'em I’ll post 'em…
Fade to Black…
If this is the same incident I am thinking of-- there is an article on this in this month’s Reader’s Digest written by the pilot I believe-- some great photos taken from inside the cockpit in the article…showing frame by frame the ejection.
The T-birds will visit us at Guatemala air base “la aurora” this year, we expect to have enough free space in our cameras to take all the pictures we can,
teh picture is real but taken with a great telephoto
When I get home from work I will upload the movie and post a link.
Here is the cockpit video:

GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Did the pilot get hurt? I myself have never had to eject from my '93 Mercury, so I am by no means an expert, but wasn’t that a REALLY low altitude to bail out at? How could his chute have a chance to fully deploy?
He probably got hurt but I know for certain that he didn’t get killed.
