confused: washing/weathering/

[?] i’m just returning to modeling. i’m hearing terms like washing and weathering. from my understanding a wash is a highly thinned paint applied to bring out details, like shadow. what i don’t understand is the many other terms that seemed to be used in these forums. for instance weathering. it seems to be used in a completely differnt way than wash, but is a wash a form of weathering? i’m completly cluless about this vocabulary. hopefully you gentlemen, and ladies, could describe these terms for me and their uses.

Weathering is a term to describe the proces of making an aircraft/tank/ship look like it has been used.
To make a subject look like it has been used, several techniques are used. The two most common are washing and dry-brusing.

Conclusion: you where right! wash is a form of weathering!
