I picked up the Academy 1/72 F4F Wildcat. In my local hobby lobby they have a 1/700 WW2 USN carrier. I made this sketch to show my idea. What do you guys think? Has anyone done something like this?
That link did not work for me. Personally, I have never liked the Academy F4F. I would wait for the newly tooled Airfix to be released; It looks like its going to be a crackin’ little kit!
Mike, you have to cut out some of the link he posted for it to work.
I can’t comment on the kit, but have I got it right that this is a forced perspective build. I have seen these before, not something I would do but they can look god once done. But I think they are the sort of build which looks best in photo’s, in the flesh I think they only work from a certain angle.
The idea is certainly an interesting one. I think Bish makes a good point in that forced perspective requires a certain viewing angle, but it is achieveable. I’ve seen people use boxes with lights and specific viewing panes or windows. I think it would be doable, the hardest part is getting the background and water to look right. For what you are planning, maybe a box with one side cut off and an angled suface at the back to mount the carrier on?
