First off, I am new to these forums and would like to say hi.
I am in the midst of purchasing a pretty good badger air brush and need to know how powerful (or weak) a compressor I need. I have been modelling on and off for many years and have finally decided to get serious about it. Can someone please inform me as to the required PSI for aircraft modelling?
[#welcome] Welcome to the forums/ Good to have you here.
bbaerst is correct. You don’t need much pressure if all you are going to paint is models. Probably 90% of my painting is at 15 psi or less. I have a general purpose compressor (as opposed to a hobby compressor used primarily for airbrushes) and will occasionally run it up to about 40 or so to clean out my airbrush, but it isn’t really necessary.
I agree with everyone else.
The only advantage to having more available air pressure is that you can crank the pressure up to 50-60 psi or more while spraying out the airbrush to clean it better. Other than that it is not necessary. I spray between 10-25 psi normally.
The higher the pressure the better the paint atomization, but the less control of overspray you have. [;)]
