Compressor question

I have been using canned air for a little while and am tired of having to purchase new cans. They don’t last long. I want to get a compressor but don’t want to spend a lot. About $100 or less. I have seen the Testors airbrush and compressor at Wal Mart but after reading about it in this forum, I am staying away from this one.
Any recommendations.
Thanks

I think if you go the the Badger site and look for the “Garage Sale” link they had a compressor for $99.

If it’s not still on there probably a industrial style conpressor from the hardware store with a 2 gal tank. I think Walmart has one for about $69 it’s a Campbell Hausfield. All you would need is a moisture trap/filter for about 20 more dollars…

—edit—

I forgot to put the Badger website on here: www.badger-airbrush.com

You might also want to check your local MIchaels Arts and Crafts store - they stock compressors and every once in a while in the Sunday paper they have a 50% off one item coupon. That’s where I bought my Badger 180-11 a few years ago for $70 (reg $140 -the manager swallowed hard, but gave it to me).

I see now that they are going for $199-$245, so it would be worth the wait.

Good luck!

A Badger 180 for $70?!?! What a great deal. Sadly, at the time I got mine for about $140 from my local hobby shop, I didn’t know that Michaels sold airbrushes and supplies nor did I know about their 50% off Sunday coupons. Oh well, live and learn.

yeah thats how I got my Badger 155… didn’t want to wait for delivery so took the old coupon down there and got it… same way I got the 175 too…

i would check harbour freight there are some nice airbrush compressors there and the range from 64.99 - 79.99 and they are very good quality great foir beginers at a reasonable cost

Makita Mac700 for $180, which they sell through amazon.com. Ships from N. Dakota.

Thanks for your responses. I will check on all of these, especially Michael’s. I have one store that is less than five minutes from home. Thanks!

Silentaire Scorpion 2 /182$ PISTON Compressor, one of the best investments I ever made…

http://www.dixieart.com/Silentaire_Scorpion_Compressors.html <— You call them up, they take your order, the compressor comes with everything you need, regulator the works… Oh yeh on that page they say max pressure is 45psi, mine gets between 55 and 60psi[dinner]

The compressors at the hardware store, do you they normally have a regulator with them, or is that also a seperate buy along with the moisture trap? Just wondering!

yeah they come with a regulator, just need the moisture trap. The pressure gauge on the industrial compressors are usable, but I recommend getting a hobby pressure regulator that is incremented in 1PSI markings. the industrial ones use 2psi or larger increments so you have to guestimate what pressure you are spraying at… it’s livable though if you don’t want the initial expense…

a water trap/filter is about 19 dollars at Home Depot or Lowes, the pressure guage can be bought from dixieart.com or even at Hobby Lobby and I think Michaels as well… it’s about $20 I think as well.

I have a 2 gallon Sears craftsmen comp and love it, the down side is its rather loud if its right near your spray area. But its still quiet enough to not wake neigbors at 3 am. I believe it was 89.00 regular price.
