Here are some pics of a sherman I completed a month or so ago. I like the camo design I used but not so much the paint techniques. I learned some new things so it wasn’t all bad. Any comments/suggestions would be very much appreciated.
One item to note, normally when tanks were painted camouflage, the hatches were closed so the pattern was painted on the outside of the hatch, but the inside of the hatch remained the original OD green color.
[dto:] Construction and camo looks good. It looks as though you might have hand painted the camo? Still looks good. I do agree that some washes and drybrushing would break it up and pop some details.
I advise that for metal, including the machine gun, that you paint it black first and then drybrush it with steel.
Also, the stowage on the engine deck should be secured with rope, otherwise it would just fly around.
You are off to a fine start and have all the basics down. Keep an eye around here and watch for some of the weathering techniques. Don’t be afraid to ask questions…the guys here don’t bite [:O]. Feel free to PM and get tips
Now…the M2 50 cal was parkerized. both the barrel and the reciever. For WWII the back handles and the charging handle could be a dark wood like walnut or black. For the parkerized color the easy way is a steel color. A closer match can be done by mixing 3 different colors but for now keep it simple.
Thanks to everyone for the compliments and criticisims. The camo was hand painted. It was before I started with an air brush. As far as weathering goes, it is on my skill learning chart. I am still trying to get the models to look showroom fresh. After I get to a point where I feel I have done that, I will start weathering.
