Completed Revell 1/48 P-40B Tiger Shark

Another plane on my want to do list, lol. It’s just something about the teeth I think. I’ll be following along!

Thanks for following!

Toshi

Some of the alignment/mounting pins were either too large or misaligned. I cut them all off.

Yes, any aircraft with teeth is most menacing! LOL! Thank you for following my build(s). I am honored that you do!

As you can see, the wings needed some serious adjustments and some Tamiya putty. Next up is to clean up a few things then my favorite thing to do. Paint or AB in this case.

Looking great Toshi! I think old ill fitting kits like this build character and skill. You’re beating this one into shape for sure ,keep up the great work.

Your very kind sir! It’s definately a beating except it’s beating me up. LOL! This kit is worst than a toothpick! LOL! While lightly sanding the wings, seams were coming apart. That’s my fault but very frustrating, I ended up using thin CA to button everything up so as to not cause any more separation.

Then the wings jarred loose. Oh boy! More CA and even more putty was needed to ensure the wings didn’t take off of the fueselage. I cleaned everything up and now comes the AB! Thank you for the read and reply!

Hey Toshi, your P-40 is looking good. It is not a bad kit at all, just that the older kits requrie more modeling than the more recent shake-and-bake high priced kits.

I notice you have attached the pitot tube. Because it is so breakable, I might suggest that you leave such items off until the end of the build.

I have built several P-40’s in my modeling career. I’m almost certain this kit was one of them. I recognize the box art mainly, but I built almost exclusively Revell kits when I was a kit, and I know I did a flying tiger. Seams were easy as I didn’t care about how well they lined up at that point in time. Actually, I didn’t even know there was a putty specifically for models until many years later. Caring about quality is such a curse. Lol.

To shipwreck,

Thank you sir! Yes, now that you opened my eyes up. I have been spoiled by the Trumpeter’s, Tamiya’s, Academy’s, and so on. Every now and then I do find it fun and challenging to put one of the older kits together. I know it was cutting edge back in the day, I built three including this one.

As for the pitot tube, I will remember that the next time. Thank you sir for your tips and this conversation with you. I enjoy them very much. Also, thank for your support, read, and reply.

To WannabeFarmboy,

LOL! As a kid I built one! What seams? Paint at times was not used. If it did, it would be interesting at best. LOL! This will be Tigershark number three for me. Thanks for the memories and support. It’s greatly appreciated!

Toshi

You’re doing a fine job on a rather dicey kit at best. It looks very good.

BK

Thank you BrandonK! I see that you’re working on the same kit as well. How are you doing with the build? Thank you for supporting my build(s).

Toshi

Coming along nicely Toshi. Your probems remind me of that Classic Airframes Westland Whirlwind I built years ago…nothing fit and I used a bunch of putty, sanding sticks, and krylon brown primer to get it looking half way decent. The fuselage looked like a banana when I joined the halves. [bnghead]

Thank you SaltydogII! I can’t believe that you glued the fueselage and it looked like a banana. That’s just crazy, I’ve never seen anything that bad yet.

So far, I just painted the bottom a light blue gray and added the base brown and went over it with the green camoflauge. I just need to button up some things, and spray it with lacquer clear. After that it’s the decals a flat sealant and a quick wash to blend everything in. Thank you for following and supporting my build(s)!

Toshi

Finally, some progress.

Looking good man. I enjoy following your builds

Thank you sir!
