Completed Revell 1:48 Early SBD Duantless

Yes, I agree. I went through three number elevens just to cut out the frames.

Toshi

She sure looks good, Toshi. Your airbrushing skills are certainly improving rapidly. It looks nice and even. Good job.

BK

Thanks BrandonK, every time I see a WIP build like yours I am inspired to do better! Now my next step is to spray the SBD in Testors Model Master Gloss Clear Coat #4638 and then add the decals. I’m still debating on what type of wash to weather the Dauntless in. I have an idea yet I might want to experiment with some other type of technique. Thanks for the visit!

Toshi

Here is the completed Revell 1:48 Early SBD Dauntless. The challenges were drilling out the dive brakes and painting the interior of the dive brakes red without it bleeding through the drilled holes into the exterior of the dive brakes. This would cause the blue and gray dive brake exteriors tinged with red. I just didn’t know what to expect. Luckily utilizing the dry brush technique helped with that.

By the way, I’ve never heard nor utilized the dry brush technique until I joined the FSM Forum. I learned so much from you all. I want to thank everyone as well as a really big thank you for reading and replying to my builds. Sharing my builds with forum members gets me very excited to do better with each and every build, it also gets me to look forward in builds each day.

Until I started this wonderful hobby, extreme amounts of pain, delirium, and depression was all I had to look forward to each day. Now I look forward to creating something from nothing but pieces of bits of plastic styrene! How ironic is that? Life is very good to me now. I have so much to be thankful for. Please view my completed project below and LMK what you think good or bad!

I love you all forum members,

Toshi

Toshi, you are building for all the right reasons. Damn this one looks good. You did really good again. Nicely done !!

BK

Mr. BrandonK, you’ve always have been one of my biggest supporters on my threads. Thank you so much!

Toshi

Toshi - Another fine build, the finish looks great and what a nice touch with the drilled dive brakes. Very nicely constructed, a craftsman job, you made a great tribute to a fine old warbird. You’re quite a determined modeler.

I know you consider the hobby not just fun, but very beneficial therapy as well. At the rate you’re advancing your skills, I’ll bet you are seeing positive results in your overall recovery. Good job and I truly enjoy seeing your posts, brings out a smile when I see you complete another build.

Huge change and improvement, when I compare your later builds with your first attempts. Good on 'ya, mate. Thanks for sharing your work.

Patrick

Outstanding job Toshi, you builds just keep getting better.

Thank you sir, the dive break enhancements were something I have never done before. This enhancement was a fun experience! It brings me great joy to not only see you but other forum members whom enjoy my builds as well.

I must agree, I too have gone back to see my past builds only to laugh and see my growth move in a positive manner. This only happened due to the support I get from yourself as well as other forum members. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me.

Toshi

To modelcrazy,

Thank you sir for your support! Also thank you for the read and reply!

Toshi

Well Toshi, looks like my 72 hour prediction was right on the money! Great job in such a speedy fashion!!

BTW, I may be older but I’m not a “veteran” model builder. I’m stumbling my way to, hopefully, being better than I was at 15. I got back into building plastic models about 5 years ago but I’ve not progressed anywhere near as much as the skills I see you possess and you’ve only been at this for a relatively short time. My hat’s off to you.

Mike

WOW Toshi ! That’s beautiful work .

You are a never ending source of inspiration to me and I folow each of your builds with anticipation, and as others have said , I don’t have to wait long for your results. LOL

I spend most of my modeling time fixing my mess-ups,but you don’t seem to have problems with that. it appears that you always do it right the first time, a fact that I greatly admire.

72 hours, LOL! 1943Mike, I want to thank you so much for your kind words of support. It means so much to me, I greatly appreciate it. I use that as a source of inspiration.

Toshi

Mr. Jay Jay, I get my motivation and drive from members like you sir. I strive for excellence in that I don’t ever want to let myself and more importantly forum members like yourself down. As for mistakes, one day, I’d like to build a model kit with 0% mistakes if that’s possible. Mr. Jay Jay, thank you so much for the visit, following my builds, and the read and replies!

Toshi

I took a nap and wake up to find you already started and finished this one! Very, very nice and a true classic kit.My wife picked me one up at a airshow last year.I plan on building mine in the RNZAF markings. Great work as always Toshi [:)]
