Completed Revell 1:48 Consolidated B-24D Liberator

I see we both can relate to each others ailments. Trying to build again gives you a sense of time and accomplishment this motivates us to move forward. Thank you for your support.

Toshi

Happy Anniversary Toshi,

I’m so glad you’re here and using modeling as your therapy because it benefits us all through your excellent WIP’s.

ok so far so good what camouflage od/gray or desert pink?

Thank you Jay Jay. It’s my pleasure to do so as I learn so much from you and forum members alike.

Toshi

Out of all the colors you mentioned, I wanted to do one not mentioned, NMF. I can’t find a photo of a B-24D in silver. I know I can paint the Liberator purple as it’s my build but I’m leaning towards the OD scheme and just build the “Fighting Sam” aircraft for a walk down memory lane. We will have to just wait and see. LOL!

Toshi

Here is is what was done last night. I did a dry fit attachment of the wings to the fuesalage and it literally clicked together. It almost needs no glue, but of course I will attach it as such with glue.

The rest of my job today is putty and sanding, there’s a lot TLC needed in this build but that’s ok. This time around I’m going to attempt to paint the Liberator in sections and then assemble the bomber. Last year I assembled the B-24D whole and AB it in the living room. That was not a good idea, I luckily did not ruin anything, and of course you members stepped in and described the hazards in doing so. I learned my lesson then and continue to do so now. Thank you everyone for you support, read, and replies.

Toshi

Nice to see a bomber come up in your rapid fire builds. I have this kit also, but it’s not slated for assembly any time soon. I’ll be watching as usual.

BK

It seems that kit has gotten more popular after the movie “Unbroken”. Glad to see you are re-adding her to the lineup after the generous gifting of the previous bird.

Save the trying out a NMF for a smaller project to get your feet wet on that. Though I have no doubts at all you could pull off a first time attempt on a kit the size of this one.[:D[

Yes, I normally stick to the smaller single engine aircraft. Mrs. Toshi got this for me since she knew I had donated my original B-24D.

Toshi

You should of seen the excitement on this young mans face while I took it down from the ceiling for him. His parents were shocked And very thankful. That’s a great feeling to be able to make people happy.

I still am not sure of the paint scheme at this time. I’m still thinking OD with a light grey underside. I’ll just wait and see how I feel. Thanks for the visit!

Toshi

This is the progress made this afternoon, there’s still a lot more work needed to be done but I’m happy with the direction this build is going.

Toshi

Not messing about with this one, its going to be a beast, nice start.

One year already? Time flies when your having fun[:D]

This is one of my most favorite kits that I have built a number of times in my life. Round two should be fun for you too.

Colors? Have you loooked at making it an Assembly Ship? These were older models of B-24 and B-17 used to help the squadrons assemble into large formations and were painted some of craziest colors and schemes ever. The B-24 is a good one because of its large, flat, and square features makes it easier to mask and paint stripes or polka dots.

Shep Pain’s version of this model was an assembly ship as they were stripping the plane of its guns and overpainting it with the crazy polka dot paint job.

The B-24 has soo much potential. I am waiting to see how far you go with this one Toshi.

Great Job Toshi! I’m currently woking on the Revell 1:48 B-17 and it’s a monster. I too have painting it in pieces because it’s too big for my paint booth. Plus I’m hoping that will help prevent me from having to do as much masking of all those little windows. This one I’m trying to follow the pictures of it as much as possible for the weathering so we’ll see how it turns out. I also have the B-24 in my stash as well so I’ll be following this build with interest

Thanks Bish. I had some minor issues with fit but, it just needs putty and sanding. I was going to get crazy and start another kit to see if I can do 2 kits at once but I feel I’ll be overwhelmed at that point and that’s not what a hobby is suppose to do. Thanks for the visit!

Toshi

Wow first post 20 hours ago. And you’re already buttoning it all up. Great stuff

Yes, it’s been one wonderful year and I hope many more to come. This is fun to do as I can remember where mistakes were made from build number 1. With this 2nd Liberator, I don’t think I’ll get crazy with the paint scheme like you so described.

I fondly remember as a child the white and polka dot B-24. Thank you for the memory as well as the information regarding lead aircraft.

Toshi

Thank you sir. The Revell B-17 is a fun kit, I made the visible B-17 and had a great time with that. I loaded the entire interior with PE. With this build, I’ll just do a OOB. I’d love to see your B-17 project. Thank you for the read and reply.

Toshi

LOL! I started this build last week but did not post the build until the other day. Thanks for the visit!

Toshi

Toshi, at your build rate I am likely about 20 kits behind.
