Completed Panther G

This is Dragon’s 1/72 Panther G with molded zimmerit that I completed for the Big Cats GB. It is the first 1/72 armor kit that I have done in years and the first Whitewash ever.

All told I am content with it as it is, but I’m looking for tips on improvement for future builds. Many thanks to SMJmodeler and Doog for their whitewash tutorials, I referred to both while mucking about here.

The Panther in his element…the Snow!

Happy 800th post to me, an actual completed build!

i figured out another whitewash trick. 99 cent acrylic paint drybrushed, its cheap too!

Very nice!

A little snow-covered base would be the thing to display it on!

The whitewash loooks good–interesting pattern on the skirts—did you copy them from a reference photo?

Congrats on getting this one in before the end of the year! 1/72 presents different challenges with the smaller scale but looks like you did well with the techniques scaling down no problem. [tup]

Thanks Jagdpanther. I think the next time I a whitwash I may experiment with drybrushing the whte paint on, just to see how that would turn out. I had a heck of a time getting the MM white to cover which is when SMJ directed me to his toot, and adding the chipped paint afterwards.

Doog- Thanks! The only reference I used was the DML instructions. [:P] They depicted this tank as from the 7th Fallschirmjager “Herman Goering” Division. I did some quick searching, but never did find anything to substantiate this scheme, but I did think the blobs on the sideskirts were an interesting feature. One thing about them though, they are supposed to be a little less uniform, but I think it is close enough. Someday I’m going to slosh some mud on it and stick it on a mud and snow base, but baby steps first. [angel]

Wbill- Thanks as well, I agree that the 1/72 is different, but I really took a liking to these kits. They are a better size to me and Dragon packs a fair amount of detail into them out of the box. In fact, my favorite part in this entire kit can’t be seen, but it was a plate that showed the engine. I wish they would stick those in the 1/35 kits.
