Completed P-3B Orion VP-46

I just finished this kit, the Hasegawa 1/72 P-3C Orion.

I built it for my step-father, who served with VP-46 at, I believe, Whidby Island and somewhere in Vietnam during the late 60’s, early 70’s. In those days the squadron was flying P-3B’s, so I endeavored to convert this kit to a B as best as possible. I used the P-3 In Action plus a photo of one of the actual birds my step-father worked on as reference. Here’s the picture:

I didn’t do any additional detailing, but it wasn’t strictly OOB as the squadron logo and unit number was not included. I was fortunate to find someone’s .gif file from a website on the VP Navy of the current day squadron logo; a little work in Photoshop and I had the same logo that was used back in my step-father’s day. I was a little leery about making my own decals, as I’d never done that before, but that was a simple process. But I was nervous up to the moment I dipped my home-made decal into the water and the ink didn’t rub off.

My photos are a bit yellow, I think I need to adjust the settings or find a way to get more natural light into the photography area. Any way, here’s the P-3.

No.1 job aggieman! Looks great you should really be proud of that build. Keep up the good work.

Looks great man, reminds me i did the same kit for my brother for X-Mas last year he was in VP-56 Dragons stationed out of jacksonville Fl. Just found the pic of the one i did

Nicely done Aggieman. The yellow cast in the pics is caused by the white balnce setting on your cam being incorrect for the lighting used.
