Please don’t laugh. This was all done with free hand brush work. I figured to try something a bit different. I still need to clean a few things up. My next process is to gloss coat the Kingfisher by brush, decals, weather by brush, then seal with a flat coat by brush.
Yes, there is paint on it now. I did the whole thing with a brush. Tell me what you think and what I can improve on. This is the first time I brushed an entire kit.
This time, the modeling machine has slowed down due to hand brushing the Kingfisher. I thought about doing something different for a change. Tell me what you think.
You have downsized to a 1/48 scale eh? I do a lot of brush painting because I like to do it more then I like cleaning an airbrush. Think of it like a 3D painting and then use the same techniques an artist will use for softening and blending the colors. Most important is to make sure the paint is not to thick, or not too thin, and to use a good, flat brush that will stay loaded up with paint, and use light strokes to thin out and prevent those dreaded stroke marks.
You may want to soften your lines between the dark and light colors by mixing the lighter color with a tad of the darker to make a balance tone and using a very soft, broad, flat brush, dry brush along the edge and soften it up so it blends. It takes some practice but it is a fun excersize. Again, like doing a 3d painting.
Now, like if you airbrushed it, give it some washes of light gray on the light colors and black/brown over the dark colors, again to soften up the tone. Weather if you want. Then follow up with your final clear coat. You did a cool job on the 109, and those same techniques would look great on this project as well. I wish I could include pictures but my Photobucket account has gone kaput and I’m still working at getting it fixed. Scott
Thanks for the information, I’ve never heard of it explained that way. Yes, I intend to weather the Kingfisher to tone down the colors as it is bright enough to be a neon beacon! LOL!
Here is my completed Kingfisher. There were no issues nor concerns as far as fit and finish goes, everything went surprisingly well together. For my next project, I’m going to button up the BF 109. Once that’s completed, I have a Trumpeter 1:32 Stuka heading my way. I should receive the Stuka by Friday.
Nice work, Toshi. That’s a fine looking Kingfisher. I moght have to add one to my stash. I’m amazed that it only took about 4 days to produce it, wow. Great work.
Thank you wolfhammer1. I would recommend this kit, just make sure it’s the kit with the PE. I’ve never messed with PE in 1:48 before. That was a challenge. There is a really nice Kitty Hawk 1:32 Kingfisher. One of the forum members Subaroomike posted a photo on this thread, check it out, it sells from $70.00 to $110.00. eBay is the cheapest.
Thank you for following as well as the read and reply.
Thank you sir. I so enjoy putting a kit together only to see it’s completion. Thanks to forum members like you, it makes my builds all that much more fun. Thank you for the read and reply.
Thanks UKguyInUSA. I’ve never hand brushed a whole kit before, that was a fun experience. I am excited to receive the Trumpeter Stuka. ETA this Friday or possibly Saturday. Thank you for visiting.
