Completed model: F-16 AFTI

Attached are photos of my first submission to the F-16 group build.
The subject is one of the several Dryden Desearch F-16 AFTI’s.

About this Model:
This 1:72 model was built from the Hasegawa F-16 CCV kit, which included
the forward canards near the intake. The dorsal spin was scratch built from
styrene, balsa filler, and squadron white. Additional scratchbuilt details
include various antennas and other surface details. Decals were a mixture
of Cutting Edge and Two-Bobs, with the exception of the tail decal which was
custom printed on laser decal paper.

Personal Firsts:
First use of an airbrush (I’m hooked!)
First use of acrylics (hooked again!)
First significant effort to create scratch-built features

This was one of the most challanging projects I have attempted yet, mostly
due to all of the firsts, but I enjoyed the challange and was overall pleased
with the end results, considering that it bore the brunt of my learning curve!

Comments and suggestions welcomed. Thanks for looking.

Very well done. Your camo job came out well and the display base is nicely done. Great job on your ‘firsts’.

Andy

Looks great!

Jon

Your first attempt at airbrushing turned out very nice and, as you said, there’s no turning back now! The whole display looks great.

Mark

Very nicely done. Looks great.

Very impressive! You have captured the look of this aircraft very well-great work![tup]

Very nice work on an unusual version of the Viper.

Thanks for the compliments. I feel like my skills as a modeller have
DOUBLED since I started frequenting these forums a few months ago.
What a great resource!

Looking at the pictures above again, many of them are very dark so
here’s one more picture that better shows the color scheme:

^-- This one was taken after decals but before the final flat coat.
Other than the glossiness, this is quite close to what it looks like
in normal light conditions.

nice, that looks really good.

Nice looking F-16! I really like the stand, too. You should be proud of this one!
