Complete: Iraqi MIG-21MF (PICS)

Modelers, please allow me to show off my latest build. This one is pretty much OOB with the exception of the anti-static whips on the wingtips. This was going to be part of a dioroma but i decided I wasn’t much of a dio builder. As such, it has no ordanance. I’m not sure yet if I’ll be adding any. I kinda like the clean look of the aircraft unloaded. Well, if you want to call it clean! It’s by no means clean and sparkling!

Hope you like my latest MIG.

Very cool, The pit and avionics bay are perfect.

Excellent job on the MIG, Dana!

Outstanding bones! I especially like the detailing you did in the pit. Very realistic weathering, congratulations.

Nice Fishbed. Could you tell us what kit and what scale? Thanks

Opps…forgot that. Trumpeter 1/32 MIG-21MF The kit came with the Iraqi as well as German markings.

Looks great nice job on the weathering.

gotta love that pit Bones!![tup] very nice build!! love the weathering and finish too!! sweet job. later.

excellent! I guess that counts you as completed for the foreign migs GB.

Outstanding build. In addition to the cockpit and gear bay, the accentuated panel lines are very nice, too. Can I ask what color paint you used for the interior? I think it captures the Soviet color very well.

I didn’t even know there was one until I saw the tag on Yardbirds post! Actually, I started this kit about 6 months ago and have been off and on with it. I picked it back up a few weeks ago and finished it.

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen.

Believe it or not, its the MM “Interior Blue/Green” #2135. To me, the color really should be a little lighter and a little bluer. I didn’t realize that until after I had painted it…not that I would have altered it anyway. The ejection seat is grey with some blue mixed in. I found several photos of the seat that showed this color pretty well.

The camo was painted with MM FS33531 “Sand” and Tamya XF-52 “Flat Earth” on top of MM FS16440 “Lt Gull Grey”. The radome, stab top and wheel hubs and other green areas were painted with Aeromaster “Radome/Hub Green”.

The weathering was done via a panel line preshade. After the camo was sprayed, I hit a few areas with light sand paper on the darker colors to show some fading. I ended up not doing as much as I would have liked, but I’ll know better next time. After a coat of future, it then got a wash with brown-black pastels. After future again and dull coat, I painted the chipped paint effect with MM Metalizer Aluminum non-buffing.

Guys, let me ask you. At that time, what would the aircraft been carrying? i would think it would have a tank on the centerline and AA missles on the wings. This sound right? The kit comes with RS-2US, R-3S and R-3R missles. What would be the most appropriate?

Looks awesome… love the well used desert weathered look.

I have absolutely no idea. I would also be interested as I have one to build for a GB.
Bones, your mig looks fantastic and thanks for the painting info.

it’s a beautifully done fishbed. i like it a lot, especially the paint job and weathering. thank you for sharing.

Beeeeutiful build, Dana!! [:)]

Take care,
Frank
