COMPLETE Hasegawa 1/48 F-86F-30

Thanks. Very nice kit with the exception of the nose and wing/fusulage belly fit -both managable.

One more thing I found when researching which Sidewinders were on the the F-86… turns out they were never fitted with them - filling the inboard pylon holes

Hey keavdog,

I have this same kit but am missing the decal sheet that came with the kit. Would you consider selling me your sheet since you are using after market decals?

Pm me your address and I’ll send them out.

PM sent. Thank you.

Arrrrghhh… sprayed the gloss black tonight and clearly there’s something in the paint. Possibilities:

  • Left over acrylic from spraying Vallejo Game Color for the first time despite soaking the tip in laquer thinner overnight. I really hate acrylics :expressionless:
  • Particles kicking up from my spray booth. Removed the primary filter and trashed then realized I’m out of primary filters… reordered on micromark.
  • Something else… I sprayed Mr Color thinned with their thinner which I have had recent success.

Anyhow… I let it dry and take a look in the morning - maybe I can sand/polish and respray.

coincidentily, mine looks exactly the same. Ruined paint job twice now and there it sits

Sorry to hear that Jay Jay. I had a few choice words last night for sure. But today I decided to fix the paint, spray and decide to strip or get lucky.

Very light sanding followed by polish and the paint was smoothed. I was a bit concerned because pin size bare plastic was showing through in a few areas but I decided to shoot the alclad and it looks okay. Moving forward!

Very nice so far! But you may want to think of different markings. Paper Tiger had the slatted wings and not the 6-3 hard wing

Ah - thanks for the tip. After looking at all the options on Warbird 48 027 I think Jabara’s 24513 is the only one I can’t find slatted wings pictures. Wanted the checker tails, but being the first Airforce jet ace, I’m happy to honor his livery.

Jabara, Fernandez, and McConnell all flew hard wing Sabres. At least for their last mounts that the scored their final kills. As a matter of fact, Jabara and Fernandez often flew one another’s aircraft.

Thanks Stickpusher. Jabara it is then!

Some progress - exhaust and gun panels painted and gear on. Finicky nose gear. Suprised me because the main gear are so easy.

Got the gear doors on, tanks and started decaling. In the process - I knocked the windscreen off… needs work, but not sure how to fix. Anyhow, the warbird decals are for the monogram or acadamy kits so there are some subtle differences in scale for the hasegawa kit. Nothing decal sol hasn’t solved so far. I’ll let these set up ( they are still soaked in decal sol) and do the data sheet tomorrow.

Sweet!!! Who makes the decals?

Warbird Decals. You need 48 025 basic data/stripes and Im using 48 027. 48 026 has other birds like mad marine.

2 hours of data/stencil decaling and it doesn’t look that different :o

I have another 2 hours for the fuselage - done for the night. Going to watch a movie with my wife.

Excellent progress! I look forward to your next progress update.

Got the rest of the stencils/data on and put down a little clear smoke on the panel lines.

Calling it done - though the piston for the port speed brake went off to oblivion, It will turn up at some point…lol.

All in all a great kit. Decals were a mixed bag - the stripes were very thick and I had issues as this set is not designed for the Hasegawa kit. On the shelf she goes!

Nice finish! So did you break that piece off that protrudes from the end of the right wing at all? I did on the Sabre dog I did, lol. I knew it was going to happen at some point.

I also had a landing gear door piece from a C-17 go flying into oblivion. It never turned up. I think the vacuum cleaner got it.

Thanks Keyda - I put the breakables on last: Pitot tube, speed brakes, canopy etc.

I sure hope I find the piston - if not its an easy scratch build. The minute I scratch build it I’ll find the kit part… inevitable

Ah ok. It was molded on the wing in the Revell kit. I thought to myself how many times am I going to break that off?!
