Hello FSM Aircraft fellows, I am proud to have actually completed an airplane for the Boeing GB and wanted to show it off a bit. I chose a B17F because this model was used at the start of the USAF bombing campaign in Europe and took on huge losses. The “Piccadilly Lilly” stood out for a few reasons; 1) The name was used for two forts popular with the public, one is the static B17G at the Air Force Museum and the second was General Savage’s plane in the movie and TV series 12 O’Clock High. My “Lilly” was the actual Lilly to see combat and did not fare so well. She was part of the 351st BG, which was part of the “Bloody Hundereth” in early 1943 and although had a number aborts due to mechanical issues, completed 15 of the 25 required missions before being lost, with six of her crew, over Bremen in October 1943.
The kit was a challenge and I did have a number of issues, but overall, I am happy with the results because I now have a B17F in my collection to honor those of the 8th who flew it in the early days of the bombing campaign. Scott
Thanks everyone. Jay, This is my first model using Vallero paints and had a little bit of a learning curve using them. However, I have been painting with craft arcylics for a number of years so the funky quirks using Vallero acrylics were not much of a challenge. Its Vallero US Army OD over Vallero Army Neutral Gray. Overall, I really like this brand of paint. It is very convienient to use. No oder and easy clean up.
Toshi, I still have to do some weathering of the exaust stains and some minor wear and tear and have a set of the Tamiya weathering powders on order to try out based on the results you have been getting.
