One of my hobbies is obviously modeling, but I’m also trying to learn how to use my DSLR. I’ve always liked photography, but I’m not particularly good at it. Still, I like to get outside and (try to) take “purty pictures.”
Anyway, I recently visited the Commemorative Air Force in Camarillo, CA, while FiFi was visiting. I took a few shots while I was there, and I thought I’d post them and share.
A couple of them have been edited but for the most part, they haven’t been too processed.
I’d say stop practicing, you’re already there, just start shooting away. Excellent photos, love the subjects you concentrated on, besides the airplanes themselves. Such as the prop, control yoke, fuel cap and info placards. Altogether too often these important details are just passed over, then while still great to see, all you get are airplane pictures.
Fifi is only one of two flying B-29s. The other is based in Wichita Kansas where I went to college. I did see Fifi at the Joplin Mo. Air Show several years ago and she is still touring as far as I know. The other B-29 just took to the air recently and is not on tour yet.
I’m very lucky. The airport one of the model clubs I belong to also hosts a Commemorative Air Force squadron. In good weather, warmer months they roll out their planes onto the ramp on weekends (our club meets Saturdays). I have many great photos of their birds, including things like BT-13 and Miss Mitchell. I did a BT-13 kit in the squadron plane’s current livery, and will be starting a B-25 as Miss Mitchell this summer.
Fifi is on tour as we speak, and Doc, the other B-29 just started touring. I’m not even sure they posted a schedule yet, but I did see pictures of them at Barksdale AFB within the last couple of weeks.
Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you liked my photos. I’m currently uploading some pictures I took at the Planes of Fame Airshow. Once they’re uploaded, I’ll share the link.
Appreciate the pictures . I used to be a member ( Flying ) and had to drop out before the Name change . I actually didn’t know " FIFI’s " Engines had names too ! Nice photo job , by the way ! Thank You . T.B.
Very nice shots. Looks like you already have the eye and skills. Thanks for sharing!
Also, the Commemorative Air Force museum inside is where Ventura Hobbies hosts their annual model contest/show/swap meet. I’ve been there for that a few of times.
