I am gathering paint and some aftermarket stuff for my next build which is a 1/32 Trumpeter SBD-3 Dauntless. I am still working on getting back into the swing of things and want to try out Mr. Color paints ( solvent ) based this time as the last few subjects I have done have bene with Acrylic and I would like to see how enamels/Lacquers work
The Trumpy kit is not exactly new and I notice the paint call outs they have on the kit are for colors that no longer appear to be in production. The bottom calls for Mr. color 338, which is the only one I could find apparently still being made, but the top blue-grey color ( 367) is nowhere to be found, even on the Gunze site - Anyone have an idea of if this color exists in another number with Gunze? - Since Monitor colors are so divergent, trying to match a JPG on a PC monitor is not a good idea in my experience
I guess I could always fall back on my Tamiya and/or Vallejo acrylics, but I am really hoping to try Mr. Color here

I normally use the Aqueaous range so can’t be of much help. You’ll just have to find a color in Gunze’s normal line up that matches close, or purchase this set.
Are you doing the 1941-1943 two color scheme of Blue Gray over Light Gray? In that case Intermediate Blue is not the corret color. The Blue Gray is lighter and brighter in hue than Intermediate Blue.
C367 in the pic is the Blue-gray. There is no exact match in Gunze’s normal Lacquer line. You’ll have to mix it. I just know its H42 in the Aqueaous line.
Thanks for your input - do you have a suggestion as to a substitute color, or if you know of a mixture to make an intermediate blue? - I am indeed doing a 1942 Dauntless. I wish to create a ship from the battle of Midway
If you’re doing a 1942 Dauntless you want blue-gray, not intermediate blue. Let me check my Gunze ref charts and get back to you. Otherwise, I would recommend buying that color set if you can.
This is a Marine SBD based on Midway after the battle in 1942. It is a great shot of how the color looked. Fresh paint behind the plane number, recent paint over the rudder stripes, and faded paint on the main airframe.
