color help - European camo

Not one for knowing too much about the color schemes of WWII aircraft, I was wondering if I could get some help. I’m building a B-52 for a friend & he would like it in the European cammo scheme with a gray underbelly. What are the best colors to use for the two greens, tan & the grey? The nearest LHS is a bit of a trip away, so it’d be nice to know so I can call ahead to check if they have it in stock.

Incidently, I’m painting a B-52G from the 8th AF, 42nd BW, 69th Bomb Sqn.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Prince,

what paint ranges does your LHS stock? I don’t want to give you recommendatons in Humbrol if they only stock Model Master Acrylics!

Cheers,

Chris.

Apologies for not being specific about that. Model Master would be the better line to use. Any acrylic recommendations would be even better!

Thanks!

First of all, the colors you are rquesting was the SEA scheme, which is Dark green FS 34079, Medium green FS 34102, Tan FS 30219, and Gray FS 36622. The Euro 1 scheme used the same colors of green but the tan was replaced with Gunship gray FS 36108. The Euro 2 scheme used the same green but replaced the gray with Dark gray FS 36081. Both Euro 1 and Euro 2 did not use the light gray FS 36622 underside but had the wrap around colors as used on top.

It is my understanding, but I could be wrong, that only the B-52D models were the only ones painted in the SEA scheme. The B-52G/H models were painted in Euro 1. I would have to research to see if I am correct. Like I said, I could be wrong.

Model Masters makes all the above mentioned paints in acrylic.

Are you building a B-25 or a B-52? The 8th AF did not use either one in WWII. During the Cold War there were B-52s…

It is a B-52. I may have misspoke when I said the era, though. [:I]
