just wondering
how do you get all the detail inside the instruments in the cockpit
i have used the smallest brushes but it still wont work[:(]
Drybrushing works very well for me.
I use a very sharp silver artists pencil… works fine for me…
don’t get the ones at wal mart or the supermarkets… go to hobby lobby or michaels and get it…

that is a bad shot of a cockpit I was working on recently… sorry about the pic quality, I had cropped and reduced the original, the recropped and enlarged the instrument panel to show it to someone else…
The easiest way I have found is using prism color pencils, availible at Hobby Lobby,Micheals,or at better arts and crafts stores.I’m guessing you are talking about raised inst.gauges i.e.Monogram,Revell,etc.First complete basic inst. panel painting and let dry 24hrs,take a ultra-fine Sharpie permanent marker{wal-Mart} and color very carfully the inst. face and bezel and let dry overnight.next lightly spray panel with dull-coat,when this is dry take a white prism color pencil that has been sharpened to a point and lightly drag across dials and needles.I will also use a silver pencil very lightly on the bezels, when you are finished lightly dull-coat again. Finally, take toothpick and Future floor finish and place very small drop on inst. face, making sure panel is level. When dry you are finished! Iv’e fooled people who swore my panels were decals or photo-etched/film panels.you can also you different colored pencils.Hope this helps.
merkin gave a good detailed example of what I do basically… except I use silver for the dials and then depending on the aircraft whatever color the faces were…
