CobraCompany's updates for UH-1N

Just thought I’d ask if anyone has used the 1/35 update sets from cobracompany for the Panda UH-1N gunship. There is one set with many of the FLIR and ECM components, and another set with a weapons kit. How are they? Worth the investment for my USMC “Hog”? [:)] I’ll have to admit that I am a bit picky on the modern huey and cobra, as I worked on them for 5 years, so I plan on really taking my time on them to make them look good. Any comments welcome (fit, accuracy, etc.) Thanks in advance!

Snake,

Cobra Company’s products are always very accurate, highly detailed, and very user friendly. Chris is also a frequent poster on this forum, so we get to talk to him about what’s new on a fairly regular basis. I haven’t gotten the November Huey set, but the Whiskey Cobra NTS upgrade set is fantastic!

DEFINITELY worth the extra outlay to get an extremely nice Huey. Without them, the Panda kit just isn’t up to current standards.

Just what I wanted to hear [:)]
I look forward to building a great-looking loaded-for-war UH-1N and think these upgrade sets are the ticket.
Just wanted to hear others’ comments on them.
I was excited when I saw the Panda N models role out, but was disappointed to hear they lacked some detail…so it looks like cobracompany’s sets will make up for Panda and produce a great model.
ALSO good to hear about the AH-1W NTS upgrade from them…just ordered it
today [:D] with a set of twobobs decals and soon I’ll have a couple of great “Gunrunners” aircraft.

Yep, I’m doing “Soft on the eyes, hard on the soul” from HMLA-269 on the Twobobs sheet. Its an OEF bird, and I’m itching to get back to it… once my beloved Apaches are done!

Anyone have the web address for Cobra Company? And any idea if they have any detail sets for the CH-53D in 1/48? Thanks!

Brian,

cobracompany.com Not sure about Super Stallion stuff, but if anyone’s got it, its Cobra Company!

Ah yes, old aircraft “06”. It was part of the MEU that lead the way into Afganistan after 9/11. I wasn’t on that boat, but the skid det came from our squadron. It’s amazing to think there’s a decal sheet out there with markings and noseart for the birds I worked on! At the same time though, there were a lot of cool noseart graphics on both hueys and cobras that would make an awesome decal sheet in and of themselves. If I could ever get them all together, I’d love to see a decal sheet of cobra noseart from OIF. Would make a great encore for the current twobobs sheet.

Snake,

I hear ya! I’m trying to get Twobobs to do another Apache sheet with birds that I’m profiling in my book. Not sure if it’ll happen yet, but I’m hoping. Other than sharkmouths the Apaches in both OEF and OIF have been really lacking for nose art. When the Army finally gives me one next spring, I’m going to make sure she’s decorated properly, even if it is just in chalk!

Yes, I suppose an OD green aircraft precludes some good noseart, but it sounds like you guys will have a new canvas now that some of the Apaches are painted in a …ahem…Marine Corps-gray color sceme! lol

Snake,

Yep, looks that way! Have you seen the pics? Pretty cool lookin birds. Would be nice to get a grey Apache to play with, although I can do some pretty neat things with just black and white (think female form…) I’ve actually had my own nose art designed for some years now. Leftover remnants of high school doodling, but I never let this one go. “Snake Charmer” is pretty cool, and I’m lookin forward to finally putting her on a REAL aircraft!

I really hope the entire Apache fleet goes gray. That’d be too cool.

Sounds cool, cobra. Good luck with that.
But now that we’re totally off-topic, heh, is there anyone else out there who has ordered these UH-1N updates yet?

Hey Jon,

Remember to get in good with your crewchief, that is his baby. At least that is the way we think of them. On the flipside of that, If I can personalize my airplane and get away with it I will jump at the chance. Sadly, our guys won’t let us do such fun things.

Mac

Mac,

Of course I plan on taking EXCELLENT care of my Crew Chief! [:D]

Jon
Hope you keep your promise about your Crew Chief. As for decorating the chief’s bird, that’s up to your C.O.

John,

The first thing my grandfather taught me (he’s a former Infantry officer) was take care of, and listen to your NCOs. I fully intend on doing just that. Of course, as far as decorating my Chief’s bird, well, from what I’ve heard, chalk is the way to go, so if anyone’s got a problem, it simply goes away.

Roger that, remember you take care of him and he take’s care of you.
Liked your book on the Cobra will wait for the Apache one.
