Cobra Pics

We have had a very special guest the last two days, this Cobra made an emergency landing at our airport (starter gear ate up, engine shut down) the other day. We parked it in our hangar and have been honored to have them here and help them out. They are Marines from Camp Pendleton, attached to HMM-165. So, I took some pics since I’m going to build one of these soon. Beautiful bird, it has been fun comparing notes, such as how our AS 350 B3 engine is half the horsepower of one of this Cobra’s! And the blades! Man those are diving boards! Oohrah, hope you enjoy. Mike

Thank’s for the pic’s Heloguy , there awesome . I like those fancy exhaust fairings . Are they similar to what is supposed to be on the AH-1Z Cobra . Really cool pic’s anyway .

Nice pics! Please post more!

Andy

I’ll post more today. I believe they are the same exhaust as the Zulu, which from what the pilots said, probably will not come online for several more years. The config of the old exhausts heated the tail boom, which increased its overall heat signature. More pics coming! Mike

First time I’ve seen that style exhaust. Thanks for the pics.

That is the current exhaust upgrade that the Whiskey is getting. It is the same installation on the Zulu, they just started modding AH-1W/NTS birds because it cuts down on the IR signature significantly, thereby increasing safety.
