clear resin for casting?

Are there any safe, easily obtainable, and suitable clear resin that can be used to cast transparent airplanes in 1/350 scale when the original kit molded the planes in gray?

What is a good yet economical resin casting kit for modeling purposes?

I’ve used Smooth-On products with success. I’ve never used their clear resin

Their 202 material casts to 1/16th inch, so casting aircraft wings may be too fine.

Note too this stuff says that it is not for home use and a NIOSH respirator should be used.

I’ve also heard that effective clear casting requires the use of a pressure pot – and that the resin is a slow reacting product – i.e. one shot a day.

Not to rain on your parade – but you might want to check the Material Safety Data Sheet and product info

I use a polytek, polyoptic 1411. It has its own ideosyncracies, as long cure times to full strength, and rigidity.

I use a vacuum chamber to pull the air bubbles out before the material kicks, or sets.
