I would recommend airbrushing the whole thing. I tried brush painting it once(just where the decal goes), just about ruined the model. Many hours of work to fix. If you airbrush just the decal area, you’ll see a diference in the finish when you do a final clear flat coat.

Thanx fermis & el taino for the respon. Another couple of ques. then. Do you kid of dust cote it or put enough on to seal the flt paint ? . The flt paints are acrylic , Dont kno if clear cote comes in acryl. Would enam. work , my dull coats hav allways been dull cote enam. ratl. can. Once again thanx.
You want to coat it just as though you were painting it. Give it a good coat. Use gloss so the decals will lay flat and reduce any silvering.
I don’t recommend mixing acrylic and enamels but many have no issues if the coats are thoroughly dry inbetween…Once you get the decals on I’d suggest another coat of gloss then a flat to finish it off…if you do it right the decals will be sandwiched between these layers and look like they were painted on…
You are welcome mavriks. Yes, there is Acryl Clear Flat Available as well as Gloss and Semi-gloss. I’m an Acrylic guy and since I found the results with them, I have a load of Clear Cote and Gloss Cote that I don’t know what I’m going to do with them.
After the paint job is done, I cover my model with Acryl Clear gloss to make the surface ready for decals. Once the decals are dry, I spray with my AB another coat of Acryl Gloss just over the decals. Once that coat is dry, I the apply the oil wash that once done with it, I seal with Acryl Flat Clear or Semi-Gloss depending on the finish I want.

I prefer to apply gloss over the decals only especially on 3 to 4 color scheme models, because that way I leave room on rivet details and panel lines for the oil wash to set in. As usual, mileage and techniques from others may vary.
EDIT:
1 bottle of these when thinned, last as much as 3 to 4 can of Gloss Cote Spray.

…yeah…well what if you are building with paper napkins…what then??? [whstl]
Markings are all applied without the benefit of decals, no need for gloss-coats!
thanx Manstein & el taino. Another ques. when you put 2nd gloss coat on do you do entire tank or just were you applied the decals ? thanx for being pateint.
Personally, I just go over the decals for the 2nd gloss coat. Most folks go over the whole thing.
Get out of your mind localized coats…when you give the model a coat, coat it all, IMO…
[dto:] The problem, especially over flat paint, is that Future etc. really seems to darken the colour. Unless you manage to only add gloss cote to the exact shape of the decal you’re laying down, I don’t see how you would not get a colour shift. (DoogsATX has a good example of the effect on a piece of armour of some kind recently)
Hey thanx to you all for your time & help. Since i hav not used this techn. be for would you recomend doing a test first rather than on final ?. Your generosity has been most appreciated
Always!! Even if you just grab a scrap sheet of styrene or a spare part you won’t be using. Paint that, let it dry, hit a piece of that piece with your clear coat, then use a spare decal. If you can, do the whole process to see how the clear coat reacts with the flat paint. Depending on how noticeable it is, you may be able to blend the area with some weathering anyway.
Ive had some bubbling in my decals after a sealer cote…gloss, flat or semi…I might have benn that I put it on too thick…careful not to do the same…now I havent used future yet, maybe thats the trick…
carlos
The bubbling could have also been the paint underneath still off-gassing…
…INTERESTING…how long do you usually wait between painting, decaling and sealer?
…until it dries…
