Cleaning parts before CA

Hey folks,

I haven’t used CA glue on painted parts before. Is it necessary to remove the paint first like with liquid cement or does the CA penetrate the paint regardless? I’m attaching a whole pile of small painted parts to a tank (tools, etc.) and I would rather avoid a lot of little scrapes before gluing.
Many thanks.

Jim

CA will glue parts that are painted without a problem, although it can cause the paint to smear a bit if you use too much.

As Mike said, the CA will attach the part to the paint. The only thing that I have ever really noticed is that I usually have to do some touch up because most CA dries glossy.

Thanks guys - this should make things a little easier.

Jim

I prefer to clean the parts before applying any form of glue.

Said that in many cases I had to glue painted part(Hair strain)to painted part(Face) during my resin kit building.
I don’t often use CA is I find it creates a hard brittle joint that can easily be snapped apart again and does not work well for weightbearing joints.

I agree with you there MMF. I like to use it to put weapons under the wings of aircraft as it is quick and if a small drop is used it is not visible either.
