I’m in the process of painting a FW 190D-11 and had a few questions about painting.
I’m trying to get a perfect finish and am being EXTREMELY careful to keep my plane dust free etc. I am using Tamiya acrylics and want to know how to clean an undercoat which I will paint over…WIll warm water and mild detergent do? I don’t want to damage the underlying paint, but I do want to make sure I’m painting over an impecable surface…
also…I will be putting a coat of future before decalling but am new to this product…how long should I wait for my final coat to dry before applying (with airbrush) should I clean the final finish before applying future?
Any help would be great!
James
Hey James,
Your future question, What I do is wait atleast 24 hours before I do anything else over the future, that way it will be good and dry. I have had problems with it not drying until 48 hours. You can clean the the furure with a soft lent free cloth before apply the final finish.

James,
After you sprayed the undercoat, let it dry for 24/36 hours. If you didn’t touch it, you probably can just use a tack cloth to make sure there’s no dust. But, if you really want to wash it of, I would just lightly wipe it down with a damp, lint-free paper towel. You can find those paper towels in the super market. They actually say lint free. I think the name is Sparkle. As long as the paint had enough time to dry and you don’t rub the hck out of it, things should be fine.
As far as the Future coat…Pieter’s method is pretty much it. 48 hours seems to be the absolute safe time.
