Cleaning a kit before spraying Future...

Hi all,

I’ve read that I should wash my model to get finger oils and such off of it before spraying Future as a pre-decal gloss coat. What should I use to clean the model? It’s painted with Testors Model Master acrylics and I’m wondering if soap and water will strip off the paint.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Drew

Mild soap and warm water, I’m talking about a little liquid dish soap in a sink full of warm water that you could dip (not soak) the model into. Let dry, wipe down with a tack cloth (lint free), blow off with compressed air to remove any dust that settled. Then Future.

Soap and water WILL strip off the paint!
Alot of people here talk about that too, but don’t listen! If you washed the part before you applied the paint, just make sure the painted surface is dust free and smooth feeling. If you’re still nervous, just lightly wipe the model with a dry, soft rag. Then, brush your future on, and everything will be just fine! I’ve never washed before applying future, and have yet to have a problem with adhesion!

Hmm. These responses sort of mirror what I’ve seen on rec.models.scale. It seems as though there’s a real diversity of experience and opinion.

Anyway, thanks for the responses, guys. I’ll try some things out and let you know how it went.

Regards,

-Drew
