Classic Diner Diorama

I just joined and am looking forward to view other members posts. I enjoy building classic diner and drive-in dioramas. I like to display my die cast cars around them. Also, I used to hang out in these places as a JD teenager. This is a really fun hobby. You meet some great people.

Diner Fan,

You’ll need to host those pics on a website such as photobucket.com and give us the URL enclosed in [ img] http:// whatevertheurlis [/img ] (but without any spaces!)

See http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4462 for more information on how to do it.

When I was a teenager we used to hang out at the local A&W, back when they served you in your car. Lots of good memories!

edit looks like you figured it out on your own! /edit

Now that is sweet!

Very cool. What scale do those work out to? Nicely detailed, thanks for sharing with us.

HI Dinerfan
Thats a gorgeous piece of work you have! We need to know more of your technics and sources of your diner’s furnishings. Are you working in 1/25th scale or something larger like 1/18th? Great photography!!
You should come over and visit us at http://www.scaleautomag.com/sca/community/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=39
There is an enthusiastic bunch of automotive diorama builders hanging out there.
Thanks for sharing your work

That is sooo cool-I don’t what to say!!

Thanks for the kind words. I build in 1:24 and 1:18 scale. The chrome diner is 1:24 and the black diner is 1:18.

Thanks for the feedback. It’s been a lot of fun. most of my dioramas are 1:18 scale. The above chrome diner is 1:24. All constructed components of the dioramas are craft built including the jukebox. I mostly build using commercial grade acrylics and PVC; I use jigs to hold components in place while applying heat to create the desired shapes. I also work with aluminum and a variety of chrome appliqués. I use a variety of texture coatings for various surfaces, basswood for substrate and various bonding agents; I use soft fluorescent lighting for interiors and EL for exterior neon lighting effects.Thanks. I’m glad folks enjoy the dioramas.

That is simply amazing work that elicits amazing emotions!
So nostalgic…not that I’m old enough to remember those kinds of places, of course!

WOW!!! Incredible work. And welcome to the forum!! I look forward too seeing more of your creations.

Lovely work ,you should be very proud. Thank you for sharing.

great looking dio

Thad

wow i thought it was a real diner

Fabulous work and such a novel idea. I’m not from that generation, but I have very fond memories of our local A&W. The town works hard to keep it open for history’s sake. When it closes for the season, the car lot next door rents the parking for the new models as a way to give the place income and get extra space. It also sponsor’s car shows.

Those are fantastic pics and the neon lighting effects are just amazing. One thing missing to make the nostalgia complete, People. The cars are outside, so some interaction with figures would put the icing on the cake. Awsome building anyway.

[:0], WOW, that is really cool, man[8D]! I remember when you joined, you said you did this, but… I had no idea!!![:D]. Glad to see you are like totally a pro at this! You definitely need to do a little tutorial on how you do some of that stuff!
Luckily I was forewarned by jinith, caught my eyeballs as they popped out[;)].
Of course, that gorgeous female didn’t have anything to do with it… “no, I swear it didn’t”…(slap) “ouch”[B)], drat!
[;)], Look forward to seeing alot more of your work before you get hired by Hollywood.

Be good & have FUN,
