Hey all;
Looking to build a Boulton Paul Defiant Battle of Britain era in 1/48. Found a couple by Classic Airframes. Why the higher price? How do they compare to Accurate Miniatures in detail?
Thanks;
Steve Gorder
Steve:
In my limited knowledge, I thought CA was the only company to make a 1/48 Defiant. THere are a few reviews out there on the web. Here’s one of them

Supposedly they are not kits for beginners, but those who enjoy challenging their modelling skills. Please post pics if you build one!
They carry a high price because they are limited run kits of rare subjects & builders/collectors are willing to pay a premium for them. They do come with resin detail & very good decals. The Night fighter includes a very nice PE detail fret, the Day fighter does not, yet the price is the same. Go figure. They are definitely not beginner kits & will provide some challenges to the experienced builder. But they can be built into excellent models of aircraft the main stream kit makers have ignored.
Regards, Rick
I’m a big fan of the CA stuff, I’ve built the defiant night fighter, the retooled one that’s for sale now isn’t a tough as the older stuff, I’ve built the fairey battle target tug and there’s a whole lot of putty in that thing but they’re worth the effort in my opinion.
That’s the dilemma I find myself in. I enjoy the “not as mainstream” planes, but being a beginner, I don’t want to get in over my head with these limited run kits.
Mucker, Rick, toomany…, and necrobaron;
Thanks for the answers. Will have to get a digital soon so people will continue to respond. Got 7 completed to my satisfaction(?).

Be careful which production series of CA Defiant you buy. The original 1990s production had some issues. In 2004 the kit was retooled and fixed most of the problems. This is usually only a concern if you are buying off of ebay.
Swanny;
I’ll take that under advisement, thanks.
