Classic Airframes 1/48 Supermarine Attacker FB.2

This build was my (very late) entry for the OOTB-First Jets GB hosted by Joe Rugby. The Attacker was the first jet aircraft to enter operational service with the Royal Navy. 181 Attackers were built, including 36 sold to the Royal Pakistan Air Force. They entered service in 1951 & served in ever diminishing numbers until fully retired in 1957. The Attacker was near obsolete when deployed & was never considered to be an outstanding aircraft. However, it did bring the Royal Navy out of the prop era & set the stage for the higher performance Sea Hawks & Venoms that followed.

The model was built using the CA Limited Run kit & was built OOTB per the GB rules. However, it’s a multimedia kit, so a fair amount of resin & PE details were in the box. This is the only injected kit of the Attacker ever produced in 1/48. I painted the model using ModelMaster enamels & the excellent kit decals from MicroScale were used.

Thanks for looking. Comments/questions welcome.

Looks great Rick. Something about a tail dragger jet that just doesn’t look right. Nice looking model.

Sharp-looking build of a unique subject, Rick. Nicely done! [tup]

Nice build of something you never see on the forums. I’m starting to become of fan of the “oddball” aircraft. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks guys, appreciate your comments.

Very nice build Rick. Not seen one of those in 1/48 before, that is a sharp looking jet.[tup]

Thanks Darren.

Very nice! How long have you been building a/c models?

a jet taildragger… interesting… from my RC experience, even prop taildraggers are hard to get going straight… imagine one with a jet! (props= thrust at front, jets= thrust at back!)

Thanks for the comments. I started building aircraft models back in the early 1960’s so it’s 40+ years now.

narupol [:D].

Great looking build[:)]. Smooth flawless paint job. How did you accent the panel lines? I like unusuall jets and this one is one I’ve never heard about or seen.

Thank you for sharing, your 40 years of model building a quite evident.

Neil

Thanks Guys, appreciate your comments.

Neil, The panel lines on the Dark Sea Grey areas were accented with a Paynes Grey oil wash. The Sky areas were accented with a wash using a mix of the Sky enamel & Paynes Grey oil. The washes were applied over a Future topcoat.

Nice plane, but I don’t remember seeing too many jet trail draggers!

You’re right, there weren’t many. Can just imagine the scorch marks on the flight deck.
