Clamps

Hi guys,

I’ve just watched Floyd Werner’s DVD on aircraft model building and during the DVD he uses spring loaded clamps to hold things like the top and bottom halves of the aircraft’s wings together while the glue sets.

Does anyone know where I could purchase these clamps?

Regards

Dean

I am not familiar with the DVD you’re talking about, but my wife found some multi colored plastic clamps that sound like what you are describing. I think she got them at the dollar store. Don’t know if you’ve got anything like that in SA, but a store like that would be a starting place.

Thanks for the quick reply.

After seeing the clamps during the building of the BF109, I went looking on the 'Net for something similar. I found clamps that looked similar and ordered them online from a hardware store in the States but they were far too big and powerful and would crush plastic.

So if anyone could recommend a shop where I could purchase the appropriate sized ones that would be great.

As a novice aircraft builder I found Floyd’s DVD very informative. You can check out more about it at: www.masterclassmodels.com

They work great and they’re cheap.

Try Staples or any office supply store… They have metal paper clamps in all kinds of sizes.

Wow that brings back memories! I remember useing Mom’s clothes pins when i was a kid. they did the job very well if I remember right.

Hi there Dean!

Clothespins are great, no question. I received a ‘tool kit’ as a premium gift for opening a bank account and included were these two cheap plastic spring clamps. The clamping pressure seems perfect for clamping models and the have curved floating jaws that won’t mar the plastic.

I’ve seen similar clamps at Home Depot and hardware stores…alway less than a buck for two.

I got this locally from our Harbor Freight but they can be ordered online as well. $3.99 plus shipping.

Thems the ones! I’m ordering! TY!

I like Berna Assemblers:

They can be set at just the angle you want, and applied to give just the right degree of pressure. Here you see one of the small pairs holding the track to the drive sprocket of an AFV Club 1/35 Sd.Kfz.11, while the superglue dries:

But there are lots of situations where clothes pegs come in handy, too, especially if you protect the grps with Tamiya tape.

Cheers,

Chris.

Ahhhhh…Chris the darksider! Don’t try to turn this guy! He’s talking A/C[(-D]

I have exactly the same clamps holding the wing of my Airfix Hurricane as I type this.

I bought mine from local pound store, a pound for 4.

Clothes pins and the above do work teriffic.

I got identical plastic ones at the “CHEAP-O” Dollar store. Ten for a dollar. You can get a HUNDRED clothes pins for $2.99 at most grocery stores.

Many tools for modeling can be adapted from everyday stuff. Of course you all knew that!
