Churchill "The Few" - 70 Years Ago Today

I know this is a modelling site and generally not a place for other discussions, but today is the 70th anniversary of Churchill’s famous speech during the Battle of Britain where he referred to “The Few”. It’s worth a read if you have a chance as it gives a great context to the beginning of the second major conflict in Europe of the 20th century, and also a reality check on what it was costing on a personal level.

We love building those planes, ships and tanks from that time - this is good context and can in some ways give those Allied/Axis power models a little more ‘life’ as we gaze down at the workbench.

‘Never in the course of human endeavor has so much been owed to so very few’

Iron Maiden opened their 2008 tour with the speech, despite everything going on and the anticipation of the concert those famous words spoken by Winston Chruchill sent shivers down my spine. The opening song was ‘Aces High’ Their tribute to the brave airmen who saved Britain from invasion against all odds.

‘If this commonwealth shall last a thousand years this shall be remembered as our finest hour’

Indeed it was.

Both quotes are from memory, the entire speech is there as well
