Hi all, im reading a book about the dieppe raid, and looking through the pics of the churchill tanks, and I keep on seeing the epic of the Churchill tank, with what looks to be like an antenna raised on te engine deck, is this an antenna or is it something else, would it be on all Mk III churchill tanks.
If you mean the 2 bent pipes as here by Inside the Armour (other vendors like Millicast & Resicast are available [:-*]) they are the exhaust pipe extensions, bolted directly to the the exhaust manifold, & part of the deep wading kit.
I can’t see the wading kit in the sprue layout. And there would also be the issue of markings. And I am not sure about the gun. The Mk III had a 6 pounder.
I believe a 6 pounder is about 57mm, but I am far from an expert on these types of weapons. I do think that second kit would be a better option. Though as hide from the snorkels, I am not sure what other visible changes were made.
Bish is correct, the 6 Pdr was a 57mm gun. It had a higher velocity and better AP capabilities than the US 75mm gun that was later mounted in Churchills, Cromwells, etc. but the 75mm had a superior HE round.
